AMP was founded in early 2002 by the editors of Clamor
Magazine to support their educational activities,
including the annual Allied
Media Conference. But AMP has grown in response
to the need for an organization that can unite the
diffuse world of community media into an effective
counterweight to huge media corporations, that can
educate donors about the needs of commnunity media,
and that can support small but critical projects.
AMP has received funding from various foundations, including
Tides, Threshold, Funding Exchange, and Third Wave Foundation.
But our goal is to be supported by membership
contributions.
